TRIGGER WARNING: This episode includes details about depression and suicidal intentions that some listeners may be sensitive to.

It may come as a surprise but I used to hate public speaking. I found it so hard to stand somewhere and speak my views. I always felt an overwhelming sense of embarrassment thinking that whatever I had to say was going to be of no interest to anyone and that the words would come out all funny, leaving me looking stupid.

This fear of speaking stopped me participating in classes at university, speaking up about harassment at work and then in my personal life, speaking up when I felt that my boundaries had been violated.

I realised that I had come from a long line of people in my family who had suppressed they needs and feelings for so long that I had, as a result of their unhealed wounds, inherited issue this myself.

On this episode, we have the wonderful Nessi Gomes who fully understands the power  of our voice and the tremendous healing impact it can have on each us should we be brave enough to use it in full force. Nessi is a musician with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Expressive Therapies in Music and is certified as a holistic voice therapist (BAST) in Group and individual work. Born on the tiny island of Guernsey (Channel Islands, UK), singing and music became Nessi’s way of dealing with challenging life circumstances. From a young age, she discovered the ability to transform discomforts and unspoken emotions by exploring sound and has continued to root herself more in the therapeutic value of music.

Nessi’s creative turning point took place ten years ago upon settling in the community of PachaMama. The nature of the place has reshaped and deepened her approach towards music, therapy, and healing.

Nessi released her debut album in 2016 and has toured internationally performing her own music as well as facilitating her holistic Vocal Odyssey groups with her partner, Lino.
